Dutchess Land Conservancy, The Nature Conservancy, Friends of Stissing Landmarks, & Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies

Saturday, September 23, 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM at the Thompson Pond Preserve in Pine Plains

Join in the celebration as we open a new trail to the Stissing Fire Tower and stay for the fun and food!

Please join us on Saturday, September 23 for an exciting day filled with tons of possibilities! In addition to a ribbon cutting, we also have a bunch of walks for you to attend and plenty of outdoor activities for the kids. Here's the schedule of events for the day:

  • 9:30 to 10:00 AM - Early Bird Gear Swap - Bring used hiking, camping, and outdoor gear and trade or donate.
  • 10:00 to 11:00 AM - Meet & Greet - Pastries and coffee and a chance to hang out with other outdoor enthusiasts.
  • 11:00 to 11:30 AM - Ribbon Cutting - A presentation on the collaborative efforts that led to the new Thompson-to-Tower Trail.
  • 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM - Hike to the Tower - Hike up the new trail and learn how it was made.
  • 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM - Food! - Lunch will be available.
  • 12:00 to 3:00 PM - Kids Outdoor Activities - Join in the fun hosted by Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies.
  • 12:30 to 1:30 PM - Wetland Walk - With Kevin Wickersham of Hudson Center for Community and Environment.
  • 1:45 to 2:45 PM - Pollinator Walk - With Chris Layman of Fox Farm Apiary.
  • 3:00 to 4:00 PM - Geology Walk - With Becky "GeoBeck" Nesel."
