Dutchess Land Conservancy

Thursday, August 18 6:30 PM at Thompson Pond Preserve

Join the DLC and geologist Becky Nesel for a Weeknight Geology Walk on Thursday, August 18.

Thompson Pond, Stissing Mountain, and the bedrock beneath it tell a fascinating and intermingling story stretching back more than a billion years. Join us for this all-new program led by local geology expert and enthusiast, Becky Nesel. We will hike by Thompson Pond, learning of its geologically recent glacial origin, then journey by the gneiss outcroppings at the base of Stissing Mountain to understand its billion-year history. Bring yourself, a sense of curiosity and enthusiam, and questions!

What to Bring:
  • Snacks
  • Water
  • Clothing appropriate for the weather and season
  • Footwear for hiking - waterproof if possible
  • Insect repellant

Where to Meet:
  • Thompson Pond Preserve Parking Area - Lake Road, Pine Plains, NY
