Dutchess Land Conservancy

Saturday, March 21, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Jesse and Gayle Bontecou Wildlife Conservation Preserve

Learn how to protect native plants and improve forest ecosystems!

Please join Dutchess Land Conservancy at the Bontecou Wildlife Conservation Preserve to help us set up a one-acre deer exclosure fence to restore an area of forest. This acre is being restored from its former status as a tree-of-heaven stand, an invasive tree that is host to the invasive spotted lanternfly. Building this fenced exclosure is the first step in restoring the land to a forest of native tree species. Participants will learn how to build and maintain a deer exclosure, understand the impacts of deer on forest health in the northeast, and learn what they can do to support forest regeneration. This program will also highlight how the stewardship work happening at Bontecou connects to what individuals can do on their own properties to support healthy habitats and durable restoration. Lunch will be provided.

Where to Meet:
The Jesse & Gayle Bontecou Wildlife Conservation Preserve, 82-80 Shuman Road, Stanfordville
