Dutchess Land Conservancy & The Nature Conservancy
Thursday, July 10, 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Roger Perry Preserve
Help improve a unique Dutchess County treasure!
Would you like to improve a geological marvel in Dutchess County? Please join us on July 10 as we head out to remove invasive plants at the Roger Perry Preserve in Dover Plains. The brilliant white sands of the Roger Perry Preserve are formed through the slow erosion of the local marble that was formed 500 million years ago. Those sands are the basis for an ecological area unlike anything else in Dutchess County, one that provides habitat for red cedars and the mosses and grasses of rich wetland fens. We’ll be working to remove Autumn Olive from the preserve, a particularly pernicious non-native plant that propagates rapidly, allowing it to outcompete native species. Come and learn to identify Autumn Olive, and be a part of protecting the unique ecology of the Roger Perry Preserve and making it more enjoyable for all!
