Learn about the remarkable butterflies and moths that inhabit our area!
Are you curious about the colorful insects that fly through our fields and forests in the summer? Flittery, fluttery butterflies and moths are a source of constant fascination and admiration – who doesn’t love to watch them visiting summertime flowers, or marvel at the monumental journeys of the monarchs? Butterflies and moths are essential pollinators for native plants and crops and are among the most powerful indicators of ecosystem health, making their protection vital. Additionally, their high visibility as flagship species raises public awareness and support for habitat preservation. Join us for a presentation by Julie Hart, Director of Education at the Dutchess Land Conservancy, and volunteer lepidopterist Matthew Rymkiewicz. We will explore the lives of butterflies and their unsung-hero cousins, the moths. From the huge and vibrant swallowtails and luna moths to the small and often overlooked skippers and sallows, you will come away with a new appreciation for these incredibly diverse and important insects!
