It was a gorgeous late summer day for a walk, and guests at the historic Dakin Coleman and Wheeler Bassett Farms in the Town of North East soaked in not just the beauty of these two private properties, but a wealth of knowledge as they traipsed across the land. Meeting first to get a lay of the land as revealed through its history and presented by DLC Director of Education Julie Hart, attendees then set off on a journey through fields and forests. With local volunteer experts Becky Nessel and Matthew Rymkiewicz leading the way, guests learned much about the flora and fauna of our area, as well as its geologic background. Upon completion, guests were treated to a delicious lunch and a talk on the importance of land conservation led by DLC President Becky Thornton. It was a day of wonder and knowledge made possible by two dedicated landowners willing to share their remarkable lands for an afternoon with others.
