Clouds and an unseasonable chill didn't stop guests from showing up at the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies in Millbrook to discover the ephemeral blooms of spring. They were there to learn about the native flowers that bloom for a short, brief period each year from Mike Fargione, Manager of Field Research & Outdoor Programs at the Cary Institute, and Julie Hart, the DLC's Ecologist & Director of Education. Guests walked along the well-maintained paths through the many varied habitats of the Fern Glen to find flowers such as Dutchman's Breeches (Dicentra cucullaria), Jack-in-the-pulpit (Arisaema triphyllum), Golden Alexander (Zizia aurea), and many more. It was an illuminating experience for all there, one that helped to provide a splash of color to an otherwise drab gray morning.
