An initially cloudy August morning grew brighter as DLC Director of Education Julie Hart and Jeff Lynch, Head Gardener at the Wethersfield Estate & Garden, led curious and enthusiastic guests on a garden and woods walk. Touring first the finest classical garden in the United States, visitors enjoyed such late summer native blooms as Cardinal Flower, Purple Coneflower, Common Yarrow, and Helenium. Next was a trek along the Wilderness Path to view not just the wonder of the forest, but also the damage wrought by invasive plants and recent windstorms, a lesson on the power of both nature and man to change the environment around us. Along the way, guests learned about the history of the land upon which they walked and how it has changed in the years since Europeans first settled it.
