A Pollinator Celebration

We joined a bunch of friends at Plan Bee Farm Brewery in Poughkeepsie for this year's Pollinator Day - Fox Farm Apiary, the Town of Poughkeepsie Conservation Advisory Commission, Hudson Highlands Land Trust, and Cornell Cooperative Extension of Dutchess County - for a celebration of the insects and other creatures that are necessary for the propagation of so many plant species - especially the ones we use for food. It was an exciting day filled with fun family activities such as building bee hotels and crafting native seed bombs. Grown-ups avidly gathered as much information as they could get on the importance of pollinators to land conservation and improving our local ecosystems. Folks of all ages were treated to a pleasant afternoon walk through the grounds of Plan Bee, along with lessons from Chris Layman of Fox Farm Apiary, Julie Hart of the DLC, and Plan Bee co-owner Emily Watson on what makes pollinators so vital to our everyday lives.
