Vernal Pool Presentation NewsDLC Ecologist Julie Hart led a presentation on vernal pools at the Pawling Library.
Guests traveled from near and far to learn more about vernal pools, the ephemeral bodies of water that fill with snow melt in early spring and serve as breeding grounds for salamanders and frogs. Julie Hart, DLC's Ecologist and Director of Education, led the presentation which included lessons on amphibian biology, breeding, and metamorphism, as well as the geography and geology that go into making vernal pools possible. She highlighted the best ways to discover vernal pools and their annual cycle of wet and dry seasons. The presentation concluded with questions from enthusiastic participants and illuminating answers from Julie.
