Lepidopterist Matthew Rymkiewicz shares his enthusiasm about Hudson Valley moths with an excited group.
The best places to hunt for moths are near water, so this year the DLC and local lepidopterist Matthew Rymkiewicz invited guests to the Jesse and Gayle Bontecou Wildlife Conservation Preserve for Moth Night. With Bontecou Lake and many connecting wetlands, it was the perfect destination for Matthew to set up viewing stations and lay out moth bait. As twilight deepened to full darkness, the moths alit upon the viewing stations like... well, you know. Guests young and old marvelled at the colorful Painted Lichen Moths, odd-looking Flowing-lined Snouts, vibrant Pondside Crambid Moths, and many other moths. It was a fantastically fun evening filled with discovery and wonder.
