On a warm spring day in Dover Plains, volunteers turned out to lend a helping hand and give of their time to help construct a new trail that will connect the Dover Stone Church Preserve with the spectacular Seven Wells Preserve. The ever-present sound of falling water permeated the air as volunteers moved large stones using rock rigging equipment. The stones were laid in place along steep slopes for the creation of steps, which will help hikers climb and descend the hills but also reduce erosion. Smaller flat stones were crushed by volunteers to create gravel that was then spread to even the treadway between stones. It was hard but rewarding work made easier by the camaraderie of the participants and the gorgeous setting consisting of multiple waterfalls and wells carved over the course of millennia. Thank you so much to the volunteers who worked so hard to help make this new trail a reality. We can't wait for everyone to experience their efforts when the new trail opens later this year!
